“I think someday we won't be together.”
It is night. They are nowhere, lying side by side with laced fingers and free flowing hair.
“That's ok, I can wait. I'll take a nice long nap, out by the sea.”
“Wait for that day?”
“Wait for you to come back.” Sica smiles. “You always do.”
“Because you want to be with me?”
“Of course I want to be with you.”
Sica doesn't meet her eyes. Yuri sighs.
“Do you always want to be with me?”
“There's no one else I'd rather choose.”
“I love you.”
Hesitation.
“I just can't say the same.”
There are no stars in Yuri's world. Only the blanket she cannot escape, the spotlight that she cannot reach, the girl that cannot dream.
“You've said it before.” Sica finally brushes her bangs out of her face.
“I thought maybe this time.”
“I-” A sharp inhale, and exhale. “I'm sorry.”
They do not move in the night. It will always be the same, together, intertwined like delicate vines seconds away from snapping. A hitch of a breath and the shadow of a sob, but she's learned by now to at least try to act the part.
