Kibum is a very straightforward person. He doesn’t beat around the bushes; when he likes something he likes something and when he doesn’t, you’ll know.

So when he says to Jaejin, “This is nothing. I just want to try things out. Think of it as an experiment, if you want,” Jaejin wants to believe him. But for the first time since they’ve become friends, Jaejin can’t.

He doesn’t know how to answer Kibum either. He wants to say no, and it’s not like he’s ever had problems refusing Kibum anything before— but for some reason, this time, the word gets stuck in his throat. He can’t say yes either, can’t say “sure let’s do it,” because the sensible part of his brain is whispering to him that it’s wrong.

When Kibum kisses him, it’s a little tentative, like he is experimenting, testing, trying to learn and figure out something. Jaejin grips Kibum’s arm and follows suit— he figures he might as well see this through properly.

Kibum introduces Jaejin to Dongwoon, who is mostly quiet, but seems to be carrying a brand of mischief or two up his sleeve, and to Chulyong, who is mostly loud and brash, but shows moments of incredible insight.

Both of them have habits of casually touching Kibum whenever they can. Kibum revels in the attention, and Jaejin notices that he softens up, little by little, but more and more every time he’s around them.

He likes them, but Jaejin can tell. Kibum has marked these other boys during his absence. And he isn’t sure what he feels about this matter.

“I love you,” Kibum says, in such a simple and matter-of-fact manner that it makes Jaejin smile despite himself.

Kibum glares at him when he doesn’t say anything back immediately, and he looks so insecure and yet also spiteful at the same time that Jaejin cracks up.

“You’ve been my friend the longest in this industry, outside the company, and that means a lot,” Kibum continues anyway. “I love you,” he repeats.

“Well, what does that mean?” Jaejin asks.

Kibum shrugs. “Something, I guess. I just felt like I needed to say it.”

“And the others?” Jaejin asks.

“I just told you that you’re my oldest friend in this business,” Kibum deadpanned. “And I just said that that meant a fucking lot. This is something.”

Something, not nothing, like Kibum had insisted before. Jaejin swallows, because there’s that sensible part of his brain, stressing that this isn’t right, he’s into girls, he’s into kissing girls, not kissing Kibum, of all people, who is one of his best friends, one of his oldest friends in this business as well, and who is a boy. Like he is.

“The world isn’t black and white, Jaejin,” Kibum says, his tone somewhat annoyed, like he can sense Jaejin’s inner struggle.

It makes Jaejin smile; Kibum’s impatience is always a source of amusement.

“I don’t know if I’m ready for it to mean something for me,” he admits in the end.

He sees Kibum’s fists curl up into balls, and then he watches as they slowly relax. Kibum takes a deep breath.

“I still kind of want to kiss you,” Kibum says, and it’s devoid of all the sharpness there usually is when Kibum speaks. “Can I?”

Jaejin doesn’t say anything, but he knows Kibum— beneath the complex exterior, Kibum is pretty simple. He’s the type who always always goes for what he wants.

Jaejin isn’t surprised when Kibum kisses him. He simply shuts out his brain, and grips Kibum’s arms, like he’s always done before.

The world isn’t black and white, Jaejin.

aw bb, i am so in love with this - i love the way you characterize key - i think he's a big part of this, his personality. even if you don't know what your original point is, i still love this idea so much and how jaejin comes to terms with the world not being so straightforward, and realizing how simple key is and akjfjsfj this is perfect - thank you so much ;______;♥♥♥
